Consumé/

I made these pots from edible materials such as pretzel sticks, chewing gum, liquorice and peanuts in their shells. The forms refer to traditional pottery, once meant to store and preserve food. Here the opposite happens: with the work I invite immediate consumption. Where art is usually protected and preserved, these objects are precisely meant to disappear. During the opening the sculptures are eaten, so that nothing tangible of the exhibited work remains and the exhibition in fact ends immediately. Eating thus becomes an integral part of the work itself. The sculptures question the boundary between utensil, consumer good and art object, and show that meaning can also arise from something disappearing rather than enduring.
