Lungs/

Two gold-coloured ‘lungs’ lie opposite each other on the floor. I made them from first-aid emergency blankets and connected them, via tubes, to each other and to an electric pump. As one lung fills, it draws air from the other, which is thus slowly pulled into a vacuum. A little later the process reverses. This creates a continuous rhythm of expanding and contracting. The work depicts a system of mutual connection. No inhalation without exhalation, and no movement without counter-movement. The shiny first-aid foil and the pumping sound give the work a fragile, almost clinical appearance. A sculpture that lives by the grace of mutual dependence.
