Spit on Me/

Spit on Me — installatie: suikerklontjes-zuil naast een aluminium magazijntrap waarop een bezoeker omhoog kijkt
Year 2023
Medium Installation (AI impression)

“You’re not made of sugar, are you?” Spit on Me is an installation about criticism of, vulnerability of, and complicity in art. Visitors are invited to spit, from a platform, onto a tower of sugar cubes matching my body in height and weight. The action playfully refers to how children — or at least I, when I was young — spit down from a bridge or apartment block. Here, however, the act takes on a more serious undertone: whoever spits, judges. Is it criticism of the artwork, or obedience to the artist’s wish? The spit is absorbed by the sugar, which slowly dissolves. Thus every visitor literally becomes part of the work and of its gradual demise.
