Office plants are brought in to offer employees something green and healthy: after all, a plant absorbs our exhaled CO2 and gives back oxygen in return. But an office plant, however hardy, often has a hard time of it. It is regularly neglected and gets too little or too much water. Not to mention the leftover coffee it has to process. Many a ficus or yucca succumbs to this, yet afterwards sometimes remains standing for years, forlorn, with a dried-up water meter beside it. Many photos in this ongoing collection were made after the coronavirus pandemic, when we returned to the office and the plants there had given up the ghost. Dead office plants prompt reflection: on attention and neglect, on seeing and being seen.
