Sculpted Body/

In this video (and the accompanying photo series) a body clad in black slowly withdraws from familiar anatomy. The skin consists of a surface of balloons that gradually fill and put the silhouette of the human figure under pressure. By playing the video in reverse, combined with the original audio, I created a surreal sensation in which the balloons on my skin do not burst but inflate when I prick them with a needle. A soft, rhythmic ‘popping up’ of bumps and lumps deforms my body into an increasingly abstract shape. The bulging volumes and irregular contours confront the viewer with the question of at what moment a human body becomes an abstract sculpture.
