Grandparents’ Chair/
On 18 June 1935 my grandfather and grandmother married. They went to live in a small farmhouse, furnished with new furniture. In 1993 they died, around the time I was moving out on my own. I received part of their household effects, including a table with five chairs at which more than fifty years had been lived, laughed and cried. After several moves the furniture ended up in my attic. Saying goodbye to the chairs felt like saying goodbye to the memories. So I dismantled one chair and documented each part with a photo. From the straw of the seat I made a memory box in which all the parts were given a place, partly in little bags made from the upholstery. A compact tribute to the relationship between objects and memories.
