Mask/

In this performance the cotton thread of a crocheted mask is slowly unravelled, while at the same time I crochet a new mask from it. As the mask disappears, my face emerges bit by bit, and on my lap a new mask takes shape from the crochet hook. As soon as the yarn runs out and the new mask is finished and put on, the process begins again. The act refers to a familiar domestic ritual from my childhood: unravelling wool and crocheting or knitting something new from it. The unravelling, which usually goes faster than the crocheting, is here forced to keep equal pace, placing even more focus on both acts and their connection. The work carries a nostalgic reference that points to silence, patience and repetition. The performance was also the basis for a photo series of two images.
